Abstract

In my book review, I reconstruct the outlines of György Czétány's book The Transcendental Problem (2019). In this ambitious volume, the author deals with the ontological systems of thinkers, arranging them under a triple typology composed of disjunctive, conjunctive and connective syntheses, and various possible combinations thereof. This volume represents an important addition to the historiography of philosophy, using both an author- and problem-centered approach, while also providing its readers with a useful ontological typology. Among its shortcomings, we sense some arbitrariness regarding the selection of the discussed authors, and furthermore Czétány does not include any female philosophers.
